I read a troubling sentence today in a financial disclosure document. I want to share it with you.

But, first, I want to explore the word 'registered'. I did a brief search and discovered, not to my surprise and, certainly, not to my disappointment that you must display a certain level of expertise and education to be a 'registered' health care professional. You must display a certain knowledge and level of expertise to be a 'registered' architect. The same sort of 'imprimatur' holds in the legal and other professions and, in fact, in most, trades; such as plumber or electrician. That being said, I want to quote from the aforementioned financial dislosure:

“X is an SEC-registered investment adviser. Registration as an investment adviser with the SEC does not imply a certain level of skill or training.”

Sleep well America. Your financial future is secure. Right? Oh, I wonder if I can invest in marshmallow futures. My advisor is registered.
